Effect of meridian sinew pathway on topological reorganization of functional brain networks bases on fMRI assessment

Abstract
Objective:Using BOLD resting-state fMRI and graph theory to analyze the topology of functional brain networks in healthy volunteers before and after receiving various meridian sinew treatments,in order to reveal the mechanism of meridian sinew treatments'influence on neural network modulation.Methods:Thirty-three healthy volunteers were recruited and randomly assigned to the Sanyang group(18 cases)and the Sanyin group(15 cases).Simple reaction time test,Schulte grid test,cranial MRI 3D-T1WI,and BOLD data were collected before and after treatment.GRETNA software was used to construct functional brain networks and calculate topological parameters for within-group and between-group comparisons before and after treatment.Results:After treatment,in the Sanyang group,the reactivity and attention were greatly enhanced,the global efficiency,local efficiency and clustering coefficient were lowered,and the characteristic path length was elevated(all P<0.05).While the normalized characteristic path length was reduced in the Sanyin group after treatment(P<0.05).The Sanyang group showed lower nodal local efficiency and nodal clustering coefficient in brain regions of multiple cognitively relevant networks(all P<0.05),the majority of which were in the right cerebral hemisphere(83.3%,15/18).Correlation analysis revealed that Schulte grid time(GRT)was positively connected with clustering coefficient(r=0.338,P=0.005).Conclusions:The meridian sinew treatment targeting the Sanyang meridian sinew can optimize the arrangement of the functional network,which in turn strengthens the volunteers'reactivity and attention,and it is more noticeable in the optimization of the network operation mode and the strengthening of reactivity/attention than the Sanyin meridian sinew.The integration of resting-state fMRI and graph theory can provide a novel concept and approach for early quantitative observation of the efficacy of meridian sinew treatments of neurological illnesses.关键词
