Impacts of decoction for soothing liver and removing stasis and toxicity on liver function and serum tumor markers in patients with primary liver cancer after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization

Abstract
Objective:To investigate the impacts of decoction for soothing the liver and removing stasis and toxicity on liver function and serum tumor markers in patients with primary liver cancer after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization.Methods:From July 2022 to October 2024,98 patients with primary liver cancer admitted to our hospital were randomly grouped into the chemotherapy group and combination group via random number table,with 49 patients each.The chemotherapy group received transcatheter arterial chemoembolization,followed by a series of symptomatic treatments such as liver protection after surgery.The combination group also received additional treatment with decoction for soothing liver and removing stasis and toxicity.Two groups were compared in terms of liver function,serum tumor markers,Chinese medicine syndrome,disease control rate,and quality of life.Results:The combination group had visibly lower total bilirubin(TBIL),alanine aminotransferase(ALT),and aspartate aminotransferase(AST)after treatment than chemotherapy group(P＜0.05).After treatment,TBIL,ALT,and AST in both groups were unusually reduced compared to before treatment(P＜0.05).The combination group had visibly lower post-treatment thymidine kinase 1(TK1),carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA),and alpha fetoprotein(AFP)than chemotherapy group(P＜0.05).After treatment,TK1,CEA,and AFP in both groups were visibly reduced compared to before treatment(P＜0.05).The combination group had unusually lower TCM syndrome scores after treatment than the chemotherapy group(P＜0.05).The TCM syndrome scores of the two groups after treatment were unusually reduced compared to before treatment(P＜0.05).The combination group had an unusually higher disease control rate than chemotherapy group(P＜0.05).The combination group had a visibly better quality of life after treatment than the chemotherapy group(P＜0.05).The quality of life of both groups after treatment was visibly better than before treatment(P＜0.05).Conclusion:The decoction for soothing the liver and removing stasis and toxicity can effectively improve liver function,Chinese medicine syndrome,disease control rate,and quality of life in patients with primary liver cancer after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization,and can unusually reduce serum tumor markers.关键词
