Essentials of Cough Treatment:Clinical Wisdom from Xin'an Physicians

Abstract
Xin'an Medicine,an influential regional branch of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)with distinc-tivegeographical characteristics,traces its origins to the Jin and Tang dynasties and has maintained an unbroken lin-eageof practice to the present day.Characterized by a succession of eminent medical practitioners,an extensive corpus ofspecialized medical literature,and a rich diversity of scholarly theories,this school has exerted a profound impact onthe theoretical and practical development of TCM.Particularly noteworthy is the sophisticated diagnostic andthera-peutic framework for cough management developed by Xin'an physicians.The current study elucidates theircompre-hensive clinical methodology,which encompasses:pulmonary regulation and splenic activation for phlegmresolution and dampness elimination;yang qi preservation and yang-warming techniques for phlegm transformation;splenic toni-fication combined with pulmonary heat clearance for dampness resolution and yin nourishment;yin-yangharmonization through pattern differentiation-based treatment;as well as gentle pathogen dispersion to facilitate,the generative cycle between the earth(spleen)and metal(lung)phases.These systematically organized therapeuticprinciples offer valu-able insights for optimizing contemporary clinical approaches to cough management within theTCM paradigm.关键词
