Abstract

The alpine grassland on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has severely degraded,threatening regional ecological security and the livelihoods of herdsmen.Studying the ecological restoration model of"zoning-classification-grading"is the primary goal of the ecological restoration and development of grasslands.However,the success of vegetation restoration under hierarchical management based on the degree of degradation is rarely evaluated.This study used the alpine grasslands of different degradation grades in Henan County,Qinghai Province,as the research object.Based on the restoration measures of hierarchical management(fencing and enclosure for slightly degraded grasslands,and comprehensive measures of rodent control+organic fertilizer+artificial reseeding for moderately and severely degraded grasslands),the alpine grasslands of different degradation grades were restored.By comparing with the non-degraded grasslands,the Restoration Impact Magnitude Index(RII)was determined to evaluate the vegetation restoration effect of alpine grasslands with different degradation grades after adopting corresponding hierarchical management measures.The results showed that:1)The plant diversity restoration of slightly degraded grassland through enclosure was more similar to that of the original non-degraded grassland,whereas there were still significant differences in diversity between moderately and severely degraded grasslands and non-degraded grasslands.2)Regardless of the degree of degradation of the grassland,plant biomass(especially grass biomass)was significantly higher two years after the restoration and implementation of hierarchical management compared to that in non-degraded grassland(the RII value was significantly greater than 0).The biomass of leguminous plants,Cyperaceae,and weeds in moderately and severely degraded grasslands was significantly lower than that in non-degraded grasslands(the RII value was significantly less than 0),whereas there was no significant difference in the biomass of leguminous plants in slightly degraded grasslands and non-degraded grasslands.3)Two years after the implementation of the hierarchical management restoration,there were still significant differences in the composition of the plant community of the degraded grassland compared with non-degraded grassland,and complete restoration will still take a longer time.This study provides a theoretical basis and practical reference for optimization of the hierarchical restoration strategy of alpine grasslands.
