Abstract

A nickel-containing medium-carbon and medium-silicon spring steel was designed and the influence of heat treatment process on the mechanical properties and microstructure was obtained.The results show that the appropriate quenching temperature can refine the grain size and martensite lath size of spring steel,while the mechanical properties are insensitive to the quenching temperature.During tempering,the martensitic matrix undergoes recovery and carbides are precipitated.When the tempering temperatures are between 350 ℃ and 380℃,the recovery of the martensitic matrix is slow,and a large amount of carbides are precipitated in the matrix,resulting in a slight decrease in the strength.When the tempering temperature is increased to 440 ℃,the martensitic matrix excessively recovers,the carbides undergo significant growth and coarsening,thus the tensile and yield strengths of the experimental steel are significantly decreased.Due to the precipitation and coarsening of carbides at the grain boundary and martensitic lath,the grain boundary strength is significantly reduced,resulting in a gradual decrease of impact energy.Under the heat-treatment of oil quenching at 900℃ for 1 h and tempering at 380 ℃ for 2 h,the experimental steel exhibits the best mechanical properties,with a tensile strength of 2 040 MPa,a yield strength of 1 793 MPa,an elongation of 9.3%,a reduction ratio of area of 50.2%,and an impact energy of 27.7 J.
