Abstract
The Buyunge Version of Legend of the Firing of the Cannon is under several titles,with"Legend of the Firing of the Cannon"being the most received.The formative years of the main body of the current text could not be earlier than in the early reign of Emperor Wanli of the Ming Dynasty.Specifically,the best guess is that it was created after the publications of A Journey to the West,Investiture of the Gods,Roman of the Brave,Romance of the Heroic,and Myth of Conquering the Monsters.Some words and expressions in the text are more commonly found in Qing Dynasty literature,and their rhyme is not similar to that of northern phonetics.It is hard to define the text as belonging to the genre called Ming Dynasty telling-singing literature.More likely,it is kind of a novel featuring both scattered rhymes and certain characteristics of the(songbook)ballad.关键词
