Abstract
The views on the definition of coordinate clauses in mandarin Chinese are not consistent,and it seems that Chinese language academic community has not clearly raised the issue of just how to judge coordinate clauses.Based on prevailing research findings on the definition of Chinese coordinate clauses,this paper argues that if two or more clauses are connected parallel one to another,each clause can be cognitively construed as being equal in status and parallel to each other;each clause can be seen as standing on its own,and each clauses has a consistent semantic relationship with others in the said connections.In this regard,such a structure is a coordinate sentence.On the basis of this definition,it is proposed that coordinate clauses can be judged by reference to the assertion test,or by observing whether the structure of these two clauses is parallel,or by examining whether one of the subclauses can be nominalized to exclude the possibility of subordination,in order to prove that it is coordinate clauses from the opposite side.关键词
