Abstract

Chlorophytum comosum was used as the experimental material to observe its morphological and anatomical characteristics,and to study the physiological response of roots and leaves to drought stress(2,10,30 d).The results showed that there were three types of fine roots(diameter 0.52±0.36 mm),coarse roots(3.01±0.54 mm)and fleshy roots(9.57±1.42 mm)in the roots of Chlorophytum comosum.The cortical radius(3.92±0.03 mm)and stele diameter(1.47±0.15 mm)of fleshy enlarged roots were significantly higher than those of coarse roots(0.75±0.05 mm and 0.62±0.08 mm).With the extension of drought time,the mass fraction of chlorophyll a in leaves decreased from 357.61±3.52 μg·g-1 to 193.53±4.62 μg·g-1(P<0.000 1),the mass fraction of chlorophyll b decreased from 141.64±3.72 μg·g-1 to 75.06±3.39 μg·g-1(P<0.000 1),and the mass fraction of carotenoids decreased from 118.93±4.23 μg·g-1 to 38.98±3.86 μg·g-1(P<0.000 1).The water content of fleshy roots decreased from 87.01%±0.58%to 63.72%±3.21%(P<0.001),the malondialdehyde(MDA)concentration increased from 0.41±0.06 μmol·mg-1 to 1.06±0.07 μmol·mg-1(P<0.001),and the proline content increased from 1.37±0.15 μg·g-1 to 5.73±0.17 μg·g-1(P<0.000 1).Soluble sugar concentration increased from 6.07±0.71 mmol·L-1 to 9.00±0.41 mmol·L-1(P<0.01).The activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD)decreased significantly(P<0.001),the activities of peroxidase(POD)and polyphenol oxidase(PPO)increased significantly(P<0.001),and the activity of catalase(CAT)increased first and then decreased(P<0.001).The study revealed the physiological response of Chlorophytum comosum under drought stress,and provided a theoretical basis for analyzing the drought tolerance mechanism of Chlorophytum comosum and the inheritance of plant stress resistance.
