Abstract

To screen modified resins with superior catalytic performance,this study employed two Lewis acids(FeCl3 and SnCl4)to modify 731 sulfonic acid resin.Successful modification of the sulfonic acid resin by FeCl3 was confirmed through characterization techniques such as infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),and scanning electron microscopy(SEM).Single-factor experiments revealed the optimal reaction conditions for FeCl3-modified 731 sulfonic acid resin:FeCl3 solution volume at 5 times the resin volume,concentration of 0.06 mol/L,reaction temperature of 80℃,and reaction time of 5 h.Under these conditions,the maximum iron mass fraction in the modified resin reached 3.08%.The research demonstrated that the esterification catalytic activity of the modified resin exhibited a positive correlation with its iron mass fraction.The FeCl3-modified resin exhibited significantly higher esterification rates than the unmodified resin in catalyzing both mono-and polycarboxylic acid esterification reactions.Additionally,the modified resin displayed excellent stability,with no significant decline in catalytic activity after six repeated uses.
