Abstract

To investigate the damage effect of thermobaric explosives and TNT under internal explosion conditions on a steel square multi compartment closed structure,a steel integral box structure and finite element model consisting of four small com-partments were established.Experimental studies and numerical simulations were conducted on 0.2,0.4,and 1.0kg thermo-baric explosives and TNT.The simulation results show good agreements between the peak overpressure,deformation,and damage trend with the experimental results.Under the same mass,the destructive ability of thermobaric explosives is signifi-cantly stronger than that of TNT,which is reflected in the peak pressure of the measuring point near the free channel in the det-onation chamber and the deformation of the overall steel box.The degree of damage to the steel box increases with the in-crease of the charge amount.And the deformation of the top cover steel plate upgrades from slight deformation to the occur-rence of cracks in the steel plate,until the top reinforcement port of the top cover ruptures and the top of the inner partition fractures and breaks.The maximum deformation caused by thermobaric explosives is about twice that of TNT.
