Dose the Application of Industrial Robots Exacerbate the Global Productivity Differentiation?

Abstract
Taking industrial robot data and total factor productivity(TFP)data from various countries from 2000 to 2019,this paper investigates the impact of the gap in the application level of industrial robots between countries with lagging productivity and those with leading productivity on the productivity gap between them.The research results show that:overall,the gap in the application level of industrial robots between countries and the productivity gap between countries present a U-shaped curve relationship.Before 2012,the application of industrial robots intensified the global productivity differentiation.After 2012,countries with lagging productivity significantly reduced the productivity gap with leading countries by narrowing the gap in the application level of industrial robots,and this effect is more obvious in countries with a larger industrial share,a higher degree of aging,and a smaller export dependence.The analysis based on the Chinese context shows that the large-scale introduction of industrial robots can significantly narrow the productivity gap between China and countries with leading productivity,and this effect is mainly reflected in China's productivity catch-up with industrial-driven countries.This research provides a new idea for understanding the relationship between technological reform and global productivity differentiation.关键词
