Abstract

To enhance the dyeing performance of TiO2-loaded cotton fibers,one-step method titanium sulfate-urea-chitosan treatment(chitosan-TiO2)was used on cotton fibers,whihch achieves surface chitosan modification of cotton fibers and loading of TiO2.Reactive dye KN-G was used for dyeing chitosan-TiO2 modified cotton fiber,and the modified fibers were characterized in terms of morphology,structure,thermal and optical property.Tensile strength,dyeing performance and photocatalytic self-cleaning property were also evaluated.The results showed that the chitosan-TiO2 treatment process significantly influenced the distribution of TiO2 particles on the cotton fiber surface,while having little effect on their crystalline structure and thermal stability.TiO2 chemically bonded with the fibers through C—Ti bonds,whereas chitosan was physically adsorbed via hydrogen bonding.Although the loading of TiO2 led to a reduction in the tensile property of the fibers,the introduction of chitosan partially mitigated this mechanical deterioration.Breaking strength and breaking elongation rate of the chitosan-TiO2 modified fibers were reduced 25.7%and 13.5%,respectively.Furthermore,dyeing performance of the fiber was significantly enhanced,dye-uptake was increased from 82.5%to 88.7%,and the K/S value was rose from 12.1 to 16.7.Notably,the modified cotton fibers demonstrated excellent photocatalytic self-cleaning property.After 480 minutes of light exposure,the pitaya juice stains could be effectively removed.It is considered that the chitosan-TiO₂ modified cotton fibers prepared via one-step method exhibit enhanced dyeing performance,with the straightforward process demonstrating promising application prospects.
