Abstract

Objective To evaluate the accuracy and reliability of using SolidWorks software for preoperative planning of high tibial osteotomy(HTO).Methods Data from 42 patients(81 knees)with medial intertrochanteric arthritis of the knee who underwent open wedge HTO preoperative planning using SolidWorks between June 2019 and March 2021 were retrospectively analyzed at Honghui Hospital,Xi'an Jiaotong University.Full-length radiographs of both lower extremities in the weight-bearing position were taken preoperatively and 6 weeks postoperatively and measured.The weight-bearing line ratio(WBLR),corrected angle,medial proximal tibial angle(MPTA)and mechanical femur-tibia angle(mFTA)preoperatively and at 6 weeks postoperatively were compared.Clinical outcomes were evaluated using the knee society score(KSS).Results All 42 patients were followed up for 4 to 32 months,with a mean of(25.6±6.8)months.At 6 weeks postoperatively,the WBLR was corrected from 17.2%±12.1%preoperatively to 50.7%±5.7%postoperatively(P<0.05).Comparison between the preoperative predicted corrected angle of 8.1°±3.5° and the corrected angle of 9.2°±3.0° measured at 6 weeks postoperatively,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The MPTA was corrected from 83.2°±2.6° preoperatively to 89.0°±2.0° postoperatively(P<0.05),the mFTA was corrected from 5.5°±2.9° entropion preoperatively to 1.6°±1.5°ectropion postoperatively(P<0.05).The Knee Society's knee score improved from(75.7±8.1)scores preoperatively to(94.9±3.9)scores postoperatively(P<0.05),and the knee social function score improved from(81.1±8.3)scores preoperatively to(96.5±4.7)scores postoperatively(P<0.05).Conclusion SolidWorks software provides high accuracy and reliability in preoperative planning of open wedge HTO in patients with medial compartment arthritis of the knee.
