Abstract

To investigate the effects of different sowing date treatments on fresh maize cultivars with different maturity periods under cold greenhouse cultivation conditions in Tianjin,a completely randomized experimental design was adopted,early-maturing waxy maize cultivar Caitiannuo 2 and mid-late maturing waxy maize cultivar Ruifu 22 were selected as test materials,with five sowing dates:August 4(T1),August 7(T2),August 10(T3),August 13(T4),and August 16(T5)in 2023.The study analyzed the differences on growth stages,yield,ear traits,palatability,and nutritional components of the fresh maize cultivars.The results indicate that cultivar is a key factor influencing the growth period of fresh maize,while different sowing date significantly affects yield and quality.With the sowing date delayed,the maize's fresh weight with husk,fresh weight without husk and 100-kernel fresh weight of two cultivars maintained stability firstly and then decreased,with no significant differences between T1-T3 of Caitiannuo 2,while there were no significant differences between T1-T2 of Ruifu 22;the hardness and pericarp thickness decreased by 13.73%-53.98%,7.05%-31.56%for Caitiannuo 2,and decreased by 4.51%-29.83%,7.33%-42.15%for Ruifu 22,respectively;the residual pericarp rate continued to increased and increased by 13.53%-173.02%and 27.37%-433.28%,respectively;the moisture content maintained stability firstly and then increased,with the values of 60.24%at T3(Caitiannuo 2)and 63.56%at T2(Ruifu 22),which were both within the appropriate harvest range of 59%to 64%;protein and oil contents increased firstly and then decreased,with the maximum values of 13.47%,6.89%at T3(Caitiannuo 2)and 12.39%,6.19%at T2(Ruifu 22);starch content maintained stability firstly and then decreased,with no significant differences between T1-T3 of Caitiannuo 2,while there were no significant differences between T1-T4 of Ruifu 22.Therefore,based on comprehensive analysis of yield,palatability,and nutritional quality,the early-maturing cultivar Caitiannuo 2 could be delayed appropriately to August 10(6-day delay)under cold greenhouse cultivation,while the mid-late maturing cultivar Ruifu 22 could be delayed to August 7(3-day delay).In conclusion,this study provides a theoretical foundation and technical guidance for optimizing delayed sowing dates of fresh maize in autumn cold greenhouse cultivation in the Tianjin region.
