Soil mechanics at the soil-rock interface of landslides in Tongwei County,Gansu Province

Abstract
The shear mechanical properties of the interface soil in soil-rock interface landslides are crucial for understanding the disaster mechanisms of these landslides.On September 14,2019,a loess-mudstone interface landslide in Xiaozhuang Village,Changjiahe Town,Tongwei County,Gansu Province,was partially reactivated,forming a new landslide known as the Changhe land-slide.This reactivation was mainly caused by changes in the stress state of the old landslide owing to continuous heavy rainfall,which weakened the internal shear strength of the soil and triggered the landslide disaster.To investigate the stress-strain relationship between the soil mass and the soil-rock interface in soil-rock interface landslides and to clarify how internal shear mechanical properties of the soil change under various internal and external factors,direct shear tests were performed on soil and fully weathered mudstone samples from the Changhe landslide.These tests examined the effects of different water contents,permeability conditions,shear rates,and lithol-ogical structures.The results show that under different moisture contents,shear stress decreases as the moisture content increases in undisturbed soil,remolded soil,and soil-rock interface sam-ples.Peak shear strength is negatively correlated with moisture content.Undisturbed soil exhibi-ted strain softening behavior,while remolded soil and soil-rock interface samples displayed strain hardening characteristics.Under different permeability conditions,the shear stress of undisturbed soil,remolded soil,and soil-rock interface samples is higher under water-permeable conditions than under water-separation conditions.The difference in shear strength between undisturbed and remolded soils is greater than that of soil-rock interface samples,reflecting the permeability char-acteristics of the soil-rock contact surface structure.Under different shear rates,the shear stress of remolded soil and soil-rock interface samples gradually decreases as the shear rate increases,showing a negative correlation between shear rate and shear strength.Under the influence of dif-ferent strata lithological structures,the shear stress of soil-rock interface samples is greater than that of soil samples,and the difference in shear strength between the two decreases as the mois-ture content approaches the liquid limit.关键词
