Changes and clinical significance of serum ICAM-1,ox-LDL,and VEGF levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus complicated by insomnia

Abstract
Objective To analyze the characteristic changes in the serum levels of intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1),oxidized low-density lipoprotein(ox-LDL),and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)complicated by insomnia,so as to explore their clinical significance.Methods A total of 108 T2DM patients admitted to a hospital from May 2021 to May 2022 were enrolled.According to the Pittsburgh Sleep Qual-ity Index(PSQI)score,they were divided into non-insomnia group(PSQI ≤7 points,n=53)and insomnia group(PSQI＞7 points,n=55).General clinical characteristics,glucose and lipid metabolism indexes,and serum levels of ICAM-1,ox-LDL,and VEGF were compared between the two groups,and correlations between PSQI total score and the above-men-tioned indicators were analyzed.Results The insomnia group showed significantly higher levels of systolic blood pressure(SBP),fasting insulin(FINS),homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance(HOMA-IR),glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c),and total cholesterol(TC)than the non-insomnia group(P＜0.05).Serum ICAM-1(4.03±0.83 ng/mL vs 3.18±0.60 ng/mL)and ox-LDL(14.02±4.75 μg/mL vs 9.97±4.05 μg/mL)levels in the insomnia group were signifi-cantly higher than those in the non-insomnia group(all P＜0.05),whereas the difference in VEGF levels between the two groups was not statistically significant(P＞0.05).Pearson correlation analysis revealed that the PSQI total score was posi-tively correlated with IC AM-1(r=0.52)and ox-LDL(r=0.46)(all P＜0.05).Conclusion Serum ICAM-1 and ox-LDL levels are significantly increased in T2DM patients with insomnia,suggesting that insomnia may promote the occurrence and development of diabetic microvascular complications by exacerbating inflammatory responses and oxidative stress.关键词
