Abstract

Under the dual pressures of the ever-increasing demand for high-quality feed in the livestock industry and the diminishing availability of traditional feed resources,the exploration of alternative feed resources has become a focal point of research.This study evaluates the nutritional value of Broussonetia papyrifera(paper mulberry)as a feed for ruminant animals and summarizes its application effects in animal nutrition.The branches and leaves of the paper mulberry are rich in crude protein and essential amino acids,and are also abundant in flavonoids and phenolic acids,which confer antimicrobial,antioxidant,and immunomodulatory properties.Silage fermentation can improve the palatability of paper mulberry branches and leaves and enhance their nutritional value.The feed made from paper mulberry exhibits excellent digestibility characteristics,with a ruminal degradation rate exceeding 90%within 48 h.The inclusion of an appropriate amount of paper mulberry silage in the diet can effectively increase the dry matter intake,average daily weight gain of ruminants,and improve meat quality,while reducing the cost of feeding.The promotion and application of paper mulberry feed are expected to contribute to the sustainable development of the livestock industry.However,further research is necessary to address the issues of palatability and standardization of silage fermentation techniques for paper mulberry feed.
