Abstract

Objective To establish a two-sample Mendelian randomization(MR)method for evaluating the causal effects of six serum micronutrient levels on chronic heart failure(CHF).Methods The data was sourced from the publicly available Genome-Wide Association Studies(GWAS)database in UK Biobank.Single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)strongly associated with vitamin A1,vitamin B6,vitamin B12,vitamin C,vitamin D,and vitamin E were selected as instrumental variables with a threshold of P<5×10-6.Inverse-variance weighted(IVW)method was conducted as the main MR method to infer the causal relationships between the micronutrients and CHF.Results The IVW method showed that low levels of vitamin B6[OR=0.995,95%CI(0.992,0.999),P=0.006]and vitamin B12[OR=0.994,95%CI(0.989,0.999),P=0.016]were risk factors for CHF,and no heterogeneity or horizontal pleiotropy was found,indicating the results were reliable.There was no causal relationship between other exposure factors and CHF.Conclusion Higher levels of vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 can reduce the risk of CHF.
