Efficacy comparison of ultrasonic nebulization with different particle sizes of houttuynia cordata eye drops in the treatment of dry eye

Abstract
Objective To compare the clinical efficacy of treating mixed dry eye using ultrasonic nebulizers nebuliz-ing Houttuynia cordata eye drops with different nebulized particle sizes.Methods A total of 56 patients with mixed dry eye were enrolled and randomly divided into Group A(Muran group,27 patients)and Group B(WH-V group,29 pa-tients).Both groups were treated with 25%Houttuynia cordata eye drops atomized by the respective devices for 4 weeks,three times per week.Assessments were conducted at 2 and 4 weeks post-treatment,including the Dry Eye Questionnaire score,Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI),Non-Invasive Tear Film Break-Up Time(NIBUT),Schirmer I Test(SIt),Tear Meniscus Height(LTMH),and Corneal Fluorescein Staining Score(FL).Results Both groups showed significant improvements in NIBUT and OSDI at 2 and 4 weeks post-treatment(P<0.05).Group A also demonstrated significant improvements in SIt and the Dry Eye Questionnaire score(P<0.05).Furthermore,Group A exhibited superior efficacy in SIt(9.65±5.84 vs.5.82±4.75 in Group B)and NIBUT(8.70±3.15 vs.7.18±2.33 in Group B),with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Group A showed a significant increase in LTMH post-treatment,while Group B effec-tively reduced FL.Conclusion Ultrasonic nebulizers with an atomization particle size of ≤3μm are superior to traditional ultrasonic nebulizers in improving tear secretion function,prolonging tear film stability,and tear meniscus height,and can also effectively improve patients' subjective symptoms.关键词
