Abstract

[Objective]The objective of this study was to investigate the nutritional component,yield of herbage and carrying capacity of summer pasture in Fuyun County of Xinjiang.[Methods]Data were collected using ground yield measurement and forage nutritional component detection technologies.[Results]Mountain meadow pastures in Fuyun County were composed of weeds,sedges(Carex L.),lady's mantle(Alchemilla japonica),annual bluegrass(Poa annua Linn.)and yarrow(Achillea millefolium L.),accounting for 55.42%,30.96%,8.93%,3.12%and 1.57%,respectively,of the total dry matter yield(688.32 kg·hm-2).The carrying capacities calculated based on sheep feed intake and crude protein requirement were 4.18 and 4.77 sheep units·hm-1,respectively.Alpine meadow pastures consisted mainly of sedges(Carex L.),weeds and sheep's fescue(Festuca ovina L.),contributing 77.87%,13.93%and 8.20%,respectively,of the total dry matter yield(534.67 kg·hm-2).The carrying capacities calculated based on sheep feed intake and crude protein requirement were 2.95 and 3.69 sheep units·hm-1.[Conclusion]The herbage nutritional value,supply and carrying capacity of mountain meadows in summer pastures of Fuyun County were higher than those of alpine meadows.Phosphorus supplementation was recommended for ruminants grazing in both mountain and alpine meadow pastures of Fuyun County.
