Abstract

To investigate the impact of the lightning environment on the damage characteristics of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer composite(CFRP),a test platform and simulation model for CFRP materials with a fastener under the lightning component A current were constructed.The damage development mechanism of CFRP materials under a single lightning component A current and three lightning strikes was obtained,and the protection effect of copper mesh on the specimen under the single lightning compo-nent A current was studied.It is found that the damage of the specimen under a single lightning strike is mainly internal delamination damage.After the first lightning strike,the gap in the fastener and hole area expands,and the contact impedance increases,resulting in a change in the current conduction path of the specimen under subsequent multiple lightning strikes.With the increase of the surface current shunt value,the surface damage is intensified,while the internal damage changes minimally.Under a certain lightning current,the copper mesh can effectively safeguard the specimen.Thus it can be seen that the damage characteristics of CFRP materials with a fastener are closely related with the current conduction path and the contact impedance.
