A Computational and Analytical Method for Pipe Jacking-soil-box Culvert Interaction Based on Cavity Expansion Theory

Abstract
Using a pipe jacking project in Shanghai as a case study,this study established a computa-tional and analytical model for the interaction among pipe jacking,soil,and box culvert based on the analytical solution of the cavity expansion theory.The impact of excavation location,excavation depth,and face support pressure on the stress and deformation of the surrounding soil and box culvert was investigated.The results showed that the soil disturbance caused by the pipe jacking process was primarily concentrated near the pipe axis,with surface displacement,as well as vertical displacement and stress of the existing box culvert,showing symmetrical distribution along the pipe axis.Surface displacement decreased with increasing face support pressure and jacking depth.The vertical displace-ment exhibited a"V"-shaped pattern,while the horizontal displacement was symmetrical along the pipe axis.The displacement variation of the box culvert was similar to that of the soil.As the pipe jack-ing depth increased,the maximum stress of the box culvert decreased.However,the box culvert stress showed a trend of first decreasing and then increasing with rising face support pressure.A com-parison between measured data and calculated results showed that the proposed calculation model had good reliability and could provide a reference for related engineering projects.关键词
