Genome-wide Association Study of QTLs for Appearance Quality Traits in Tropical Rice

Abstract
The appearance quality is a key determinant of the market value of rice.In this study,six appearance quality traits,including grain length,grain width,length-to-width ratio,chalkiness degree,chalky grain rate and translucency degree of milled rice,were measured for 332 tropical rice germplasm accessions across two growing seasons in two years.Based on the rice genotype data obtained by the 40 K SNP liquid-phase chip,a mixed linear model(Q+K)was employed for the genome-wide association study(GWAS).The results showed that a total of 17 quantitative trait loci(QTLs)associated with rice appearance quality were identified.Among them,seven QTLs showed pleiotropic effects on two or three traits.Eleven QTLs were consistently detected in both seasons,and six QTLs were located in or near the regions harboring previously cloned grain shape-related genes.These findings provide new insights into the genetic basis of rice appearance quality and offer valuable resources for gene mining and molecular breeding.关键词
