Role Innovation and Role Coordination:The Logic of China's Role Enhancement in Global Climate Change Governance

Abstract
China has been a key player in global climate change governance.Meanwhile,China's role con-ception and role behavior have changed significantly over the past three decades,which has been an impor-tant research issue for many researchers.This article aims to describe and explain this change from a new perspective.Building on the role theory,the authors introduce the concept of role enhancement,emphasi-zing the continuity,directionality,and constructiveness of national role change.Furthermore,this article i-dentifies two fundamental approaches of role enhancement,which are role innovation and role coordination.Applying these concepts,the authors argue that China has experienced role enhancement over the past three decades in terms of its status,function,and influence in global climate governance.China's role enhance-ment has been achieved by role innovation and role coordination.While role innovation refers to China's norm innovation and practice innovation in climate governance,role coordination implies China's cooperation with both the Global North and the Global South,as well as its efforts to coordinate international and domestic rules.关键词
