Abstract

Using ERA5(0.25°×0.25°)reanalysis data,atmospheric sounding data,hourly precipitation data,and storm structure products,the spatial and temporal distribution,circulation patterns,sounding parameters,and storm structures of short-term heavy precipitation in northern Kashgar from 2019 to 2023 were statistically analyzed.The storms were classified into three types based on their initial positions and movement paths:external moving storms,internal moving storms,and internal less moving storms.The results show that short-term heavy precipitation in northern Kashgar is concentrated from April to September,with more precipitation in the shallow mountainous areas compared to the plains.The Central Asian trough(vortex)circulation pattern is the most dominant,accounting for 68.6%of the precipitation,followed by the westerly shortwave pattern.The minimum thresholds for convective available potential energy,precipitable water,Showalter index,K index,uplift index,and storm intensity index are 90.7 J·kg⁻¹,16.1 mm,-1.8 °C,27.0 °C,-2.5° C,and 223.4,respectively,which are lower than those observed in central and eastern China.Internal moving storms are the most prevalent,accounting for 37.9%,followed by internal less moving storms.There are significant differences in storm top height,vertically integrated liquid water content,maximum reflectance factor,and centroid height among the three types of storms.
