Advances in the Development of a Rapid-Update Multi-scale Analysis and Forecast System for Central Asia

Abstract
The Institute of Desert Meteorology,China Meteorological Administration,has been advancing the development of the Central Asia Rapid-Update Multi-scale Analysis and Forecast System(RMAPS-CA)since 2017.Significant progress has been made in the joint assimilation of multi-source data,the optimization of parameterization schemes,and the adjustment of the dynamic framework.This paper reviews the operational development of RMAPS-CA and highlights key research achievements,including the assimilation of radar reflectivity,the separation of sub-grid physical processes such as gravity wave drag associated with upper-level sub-grid terrain and near-surface blocking drag,the implementation of a terrain-following dynamic framework,and the post-processing of forecast products using the Bayesian Model Averaging(BMA)method.In response to the characteristics of sparse conventional observations and the vast desert surfaces of Central Asia,the paper proposes suggestions for strengthening the operational development and application of Numerical Weather Prediction(NWP)in the region,with a focus on the assimilation of satellite-ground channels.关键词
