Abstract

This review comprehensively examined research progress in theoretical models and experimental methods for toxic and flammable gas leakage and dispersion.It analyzed under-expanded jet structure,computa-tional models,dispersion models,numerical simulation methods,and diffusion experiments.Research indicated that the leakage dispersion process involves two key stages:under-expanded jet formation at the leakage outlet and far-field atmospheric dispersion.Various experimental methods and computational models have been devel-oped in each stage.Particle image velocimetry was a crucial technique for studying jet structure.Based on ex-perimental data and momentum conservation equations,various high-precision equivalent jet models such as Birch′s method,Ewan′s method,Schefer′s method,and Harstad′s method have been established.For large-scale dispersion,the Gaussian model and Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD)were the most widely applied methods,among which Phast and FLACS were commonly used simulation tools.However,current research on jet formation and dispersion of mixed gases remains insufficient,lacking adequate experimental verification,and the theoretical system has not yet been perfected.In terms of test methods,compared with field tests,wind tun-nel experiments have demonstrated significant potential as a preferred method for studying large-scale gas disper-sion.Nevertheless,developing experimental similarity models and dimensionless parameters for industrial gas dispersion lacked robust theoretical underpinning.Future research should focus on large-scale jet experiments,the development of domestic numerical simulation software,large-scale wind tunnel dispersion experiments,and mixed gas leakage dispersion modeling.
