Interaction between non-point source pollution characteristics and land use change in the upper Dongzhen reservoir watershed

Abstract
To analyze the interactive relationship between land use changes and non-point source pollution characteristics in a watershed,this study takes the upstream basin of Dongzhen Reservoir as the research area.By bidirectionally coupling the SWAT model and the PLUS model,it explores the feedback effect of current non-point source pollution characteristics on future land use spatial patterns and examines the response relationship between the spatial distribution of future non-point source pollution and future land use scenarios.Both the SWAT and PLUS models demonstrate strong applicability for simulating watershed non-point source pollution.For the SWAT model,the R2 and Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency(NS)values for the runoff calibration and validation periods were above 0.80,while those for ammonia nitrogen and total phosphorus during calibration and validation were above 0.70.The PLUS model achieved a Kappa coefficient of 0.87.The PLUS simulation results indicate that under future scenarios,residential land exhibits the most significant increase,primarily concentrated in the northwestern part of the watershed,with notable expansion in some sub-basins(up to 57.1%).Comparing the non-point source pollution simulation results from the SWAT model,the key pollution source areas under both current and future scenarios show similar spatial distributions,mainly located in the eastern and western parts of the watershed,though some variations in nitrogen and phosphorus loads are observed.In terms of land use spatial patterns,the dominant land types-cropland and forest-significantly influence the overall landscape pattern indices of the watershed,while the connectivity between residential land and other land types increases markedly in future scenarios.The study confirms that non-point source pollution has a certain impact(contribution rate:10.9%~23.4%)on future changes in land use types such as water bodies,grassland,and residential land,but its effect on cropland and forestland is weaker.Both the proportion of residential land area and the patch cohesion index among different land types promote non-point source pollution loads in the watershed.Compared to previous studies,this research incorporates watershed non-point source pollution characteristics as one of the driving factors influencing land use changes,analyzes their indirect impact on future land use changes,and elucidates their potential role in reshaping the watershed's spatial patterns.关键词
