Abstract

In response to the demand for efficient automatic detection of metal pipe wall thickness,a multi-channel ultrasonic metal wall thickness detection system based on FPGA is designed.The system hardware part uses Xilinx Spartan 6 FPGA as the control core and is composed of ultrasonic transmitting and receiving circuits.The FPGA implements sequential cyclic excitation and signal reception processing of the four ultrasonic channels.A new echo signal processing method is proposed,which processes the high-frequency weak echo signal into a TTL square wave signal,and uses FPGA to calculate the time intervals between the surface wave and primary bottom wave,surface wave and defect echo that characterize the metal wall thickness.The host computer program is designed,and the host computer is communicated with the FPGA through Gigabit Ethernet for thickness calculation and display.The designed ultrasonic metal wall thickness detection system has a resolution of less than 0.05 mm and realizes multi-channel signal acquisition and processing.The experimental results show that the multi-channel ultrasonic detector design using FPGA achieves efficient and accurate measurement and identification of device wall thickness.
