Altitudinal Gradient Characteristics of Plant Diversity and Carbon Storage Distribution of Abies Fabri at Different Altitudes in Mount Gongga

Abstract
[Objective]Understanding the altitudinal distribution of plant diversity and carbon storage in Abies fabri on Mount Gongga is of great significance for predicting forest carbon storage dynamics under climate change.[Method]On the eastern slope of Mount Gongga,sample plots were established within A.fabri forests across an elevation ranging from 3 000 to 3 600 m,at 300 m intervals.A combination of typical plot surveys and allometric growth models was used to analyze the distribution patterns of species diversity and carbon storage along the altitudinal gradient.[Result]① A total of 77 plant species belong-ing to 43 families and 54 genera were recorded,including 8 species of trees,20 species of shrubs,and 49 species of herbs.The total species richness was herbs>shrubs>trees;② In the tree layer,both the Shannon-Wiener index and Simpson indices gradually decreased with increasing elevation,while the Pielou evenness index gradually increased.In contrast,the shrub and herb layers showed decreasing trends in all three diversity indices with elevation.Community α-diversity was significantly correlated with temperature;③ Total carbon storage exhibited a unimodal pattern along the altitudinal gradient,peaking at mid-elevation(3 300 m)and reaching its lowest at high elevation(3 600 m).In overmature forests at 3 000 m and 3 300 m,the tree layer contributed most to total carbon storage,accounting for 86.95%and 98.29%,respectively.At 3 600 m in middle-aged forest,the soil layer contributed the larg-est proportion,accounting for 83.52%.[Conclusion]Species diversity in A.fabri forests declines at higher elevations and is strongly influenced by temperature.Carbon storage peaks at mid-altitude(3 300 m),and with stand development,the tree layer increasingly dominates total carbon storage.Accurate evalua-tion of biodiversity and carbon storage,as well as clarification of their spatial distribution patterns,pro-vides essential guidance for regional carbon sink management and sustainable forest development.关键词
