Abstract

Currently,high speed and intercity railways primarily adopt the operation mode of single-speed EMU trains or the mixed operation of EMU and low-speed trains.However,the existing regulations do not specify the deduction coefficient values for the mixed operation mode.By combining train operation diagram drawing and analyzing the calculation of reference deduction coefficient values for EMU and low-speed trains under varying train volumes,station distances,and headways,a theoretical system for calculating the deduction coefficients and capacity of high speed EMU and low speed trains was established.This provided strong technical support for the capacity design of high speed and intercity railway projects.The study shows that through calculation and train operation diagram drawing validation when low speed trains operate on high speed and intercity railways,the average deduction coefficient values for different proportions of EMU trains under varying headways range from 1.21 to 2.70.The deduction coefficient values for low-speed trains against EMUs,under different station distances and headways,range from 4.98 to 11.60.By validating with the Lanzhou—Xinjiang high speed railway operation diagram drawing,the carrying capacity results calculated using the recommended deduction coefficient theory closely match the actual number of trains plotted in the operation diagram drawing.The results define the carrying capacity and the number of EMUs that can be operated on high speed and intercity railways when different-speed EMU trains operate together.It also provides guidance for determining the deduction coefficients for EMUs and low speed trains in the co-line operation mode,which is useful for diverting traffic on lower speed lines and tapping the transportation potential of low speed railways.
