Abstract

To address the increasing scarcity of river sand resources and issues such as the easy detachment and flammability of traditional thermal insulation materials in building structures,replacing river sand with desert sand and conducting research on integrated building structural and thermal insulation have become a research focus and development trend.This study utilized desert sand in Southern Xinjiang as a substitute for river sand,nine working conditions were set with different substitution rates of 0%,15%,25%,35%,45%,55%,65%,75%,and 100%.Based on optimal strength group,EPS volume proportions of 0.3 m3·m-3,0.6 m3·m-3,0.9 m3·m-3,1.2 m3·m-3 were admixed to investigate the mechanical and thermal insulation properties.The results showed that:1)When the desert sand substitution rate was 35%,the cubic compressive strength of the specimens increased by 2.27%compared to concrete without desert sand,with the best workability and a slump of 61 mm.2)At a 35%substitution rate,as the EPS content increased,the compressive strength of concrete gradually decreased while its plasticity and thermal insulation performance improved.The lowest thermal conductivity and best insulation effect were observed at an EPS content of 0.9 m3·m-3.3)Microstructural analysis indicated that at a 35%desert sand substitution rate,the specimens had the smallest internal crack width and the highest strength,which was consistent with the mechanical test results.This study can provide references for engineering application of EPS desert sand concrete.
