Abstract

Poly(L-lactic acid)(PLLA)/poly(D-lactic acid)(PDLA)/glass fiber(GF)composites were prepared by melt compounding.The results showed that the SC crystallites could dramatically accelerate the crystallization rate of PLLA.The vicat softening temperature(VST)of PLLA/PDLA/GF composites couldreach 160℃,about 100℃ higher than that of neat PLLA.The introduction of GFs and PDLA enhanced rheological properties of composites.When PDLA content was increased to 5%(mass percent),the network of SC crystallites was formed.Mechanical testing reaveled that the Young's modulus and tensile strength of the composite with 1.6%(mass percent)GF were 28%and 93%,respectively,higher than neat PLLA.It is believed that the enhanced rheological and mechanical properties,as well as heat distortion resistance of the PLLA/PDLA/GF composites can contribute to the success of PLA composites in more biodegradable applications.
