Development trends and enlightenments of international energy engineering construction enterprises

Abstract
Based on information and data from the Engineering News-Record(ENR)Top 250 International Contractors rankings over the past three years,this paper analyzes the development trends of international energy engineering construction enterprises,focusing on the revenue,profitability,assets,liabilities,and sustainable development capabilities of three Chinese and six foreign companies.It finds that the industry exhibits a pattern of"dominance of domestic markets with growing international operations",enterprises in the Asia-Pacific region dominates in terms of the number of enterprises but its market share has declined,top-tier firms still lack competitiveness although the number of Chinese enterprises on the list has increased,the profitability and asset operational efficiency still have long way to go compared to world-class international enterprises.It identifies such five major development trends for international contractors as diversifying business into new energy and environmental protection fields,deeply integrating digital and intelligent technologies into the entire engineering process,making green and low-carbon technologies and project investments core competitiveness,focusing on regional markets with differentiated layouts,and concentrating core technological innovations on frontier areas including carbon capture and hydrogen energy.It is recommended that Chinese energy engineering construction enterprises further optimize their overseas market structure by deepening operations in high-end markets like the Middle East and Central Asia and expanding into the new energy sectors in Europe and the United States,strengthen technological research and development to build a low-carbon new energy technology system,enhance full-lifecycle project management efficiency through digitalization,and shape a sustainable global brand image through high-quality project delivery and social responsibility fulfillment.关键词
