Abstract

Traditional steel cables can be replaced by carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP)cables which have many benefits such as light weight,high strength,corrosion resistance,and fatigue durability,and therefore significantly enhances the span and service life of cable structures.However,the anisotropic nature of CFRP cables presents substantial challenges for anchorage,thus limiting their widespread and industrial-scale adoption in engineering applications.To provide a comprehensive review of the research progress and challenges associated with the anchorage systems of CFRP cables,four types of CFRP cables were introduced according to different cable body forms,and their practical applications in both domestic and international projects were discussed.The anchoring configurations and principles applicable to various types of cables were systematically elaborated,and the limitations of different anchor types were analyzed.The effective measures to address the stress concentration issues in anchors were summarized.The results indicate that anchors relying solely on adhesive force or friction are only suitable for anchoring small-tonnage CFRP cables,while anchors based on friction-adhesion coupling force can effectively anchor large-tonnage CFRP cables.For bonded-type anchorages,anchoring efficiency can be improved by increasing the contact area between the CFRP cable and the adhesive or by using modified adhesives.In mechanical anchorages,the key to optimizing the anchorage structure design is mitigating and transferring the peak stress at the loading end,as well as evenly distributing compressive stress in the radial or width directions.For self-anchoring anchorages,increasing the cross-sectional area of the cable in the anchoring zone could effectively alleviate the tensile stress concentration at the transition zone of the anchor ring.
