Research on damage assessment and performance-based design method for CFST columns under close-in blast loading

Abstract
Concrete-filled steel tubular(CFST)columns exhibit high carrying capacity and excellent seismic performance,making them widely used in high-rise building structures.However,research on their dynamic response mechanisms and blast resistance remains insufficient.Furthermore,with the evolution of design theories toward multi-objective and multi-level design,accurately characterizing the damage degree of structures and members,as well as proposing reasonable performance indicators and their thresholds,has become a critical issue.In this study,numerical simulations were conducted to analyze the effects of design parameters on the dynamic response and failure modes of CFST columns under close-in blast loading.The results indicate that the lateral deformation of the columns involves a coupling of bending and shear deformations.By decoupling these components,the ratio of shear deformation to total deformation was calculated to quantitatively determine the failure modes of the columns.Based on this criterion for identifying the failure modes was proposed.Furthermore,bending-to-shear strength ratio was defined using the designed bending strength,shear strength and the computered shear span length.A practical method for determining the failure modes of CFST columns was developed by considering the bending-to-shear strength ratio and the reflected impulse of the blast wave.Additionally,the residual angular displacement of the columns was proposed as a performance indicator,and a damage assessment method for CFST columns after blast loading was established.Through regression analysis,considering different failure modes,a relationship between the residual angular displacement and the design parameters of the columns were derived.Based on this relationship,the performance indicator thresholds were calculated.Based on this relationship,the performance indicator thresholds were calculated,and a blast-resistant design procedure was proposed.This study established a performance-based blast-resistant design method for CFST columns.关键词
