Abstract

To investigate the in-plane mechanical behavior of roof-connected diaphragms in modular steel buildings,three diaphragms with different roof connection types were designed and fabricated.In-plane low-cycle loading tests were conducted to study their hysteretic characteristics,load-bearing capacity,displacement ductility,deformation patterns,stiffness degradation,and failure modes.The load-transfer mechanisms of different roof connections were analyzed,and the in-plane mechanical behavior of roof-connected diaphragms was revealed.The results indicate that the bolted cover plate connection can effectively restrain relative deformation between adjacent modules,alleviates damage to horizontal connecting plates at corner column joints,and improves the overall cooperative performance of modular steel buildings.This connection exhibits strong load-transfer capability and significantly enhances the in-plane capacity,ductility,and stiffness of discontinuous diaphragms,although its energy dissipation capacity remains relatively limited.The overall deformation mode of the roof-connected diaphragms presents a typical shear deformation pattern,making it difficult to satisfy the rigid diaphragm assumption.Based on experimental and theoretical analysis,design suggestions and stiffness calculation methods for bolted cover plate connections were proposed,providing a scientific basis for the theoretical study and engineering application of roof-connected diaphragms in modular steel buildings.
