Abstract
In early left-wing novels, lung diseases and syphilis are typical diseases closely related to revolutionary discourse. After undergoing the transformation of revolutionary aesthetics, lung diseases have evolved from a romantic love lesion in the May Fourth period to a physical representation and spiritual symbol of revolutionary dedication.Syphilis(venereal disease)has contrarily become a sign of moral laxity or ideological degeneration,so that writers have to adopt the strategy of "sudden cure" to bring the narrative back on the ideological track.Lung diseases achieve the sublimation of the subject through pathological sanctification, while syphilis maintains ideological purity through disciplinary mechanisms.Yet the two represent different life norms and emotional orientations, demonstrating the paradox of revolutionary ethics and illness narratives, and reflecting the "regenerated anxiety of transformation" of left-wing intellectuals. This kind of illness depiction breaks the "formulaic" and "conceptualization" of "revolution and love",forming a triangular narrative structure of revolution, love and illness, thereby revealing the complexity that was obscured in early left-wing literature.关键词
