Effect of heat-sensitive moxibustion combined with spinal joint mobilization on the recovery of lumbar function in patients with lumbar disc herniation

Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of heat-sensitive moxibustion combined with spinal joint mobilization on the recovery of lumbar function in patients with lumbar disc herniation(LDH).Methods 100 LDH patients were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group.The control group received conventional physical therapy,while the observation group received heat-sensitive moxibustion combined with spinal joint mobilization therapy on the basis of the treatment of the control group.The pain intensity[Visual Analog Scale(VAS)]score,Oswestry Disability Index(ODI),Japanese Orthopaedic Association(JOA)score,Lumbar spinal joint range of motion(LJ-ROM),imaging indicators(cross-sectional area of the dural sac,sagittal diameter of the herniated disc,and intervertebral height index),the levels of serum biochemical markers[interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α),matrix metalloproteinase-3(MMP-3),and superoxide dismutase(SOD)],overall response rate,and incidence of adverse reaction were compared between two groups.Results The observation group showed lower VAS scores,ODI percentages,sagittal diameter of the herniated disc,and levels of IL-6,TNF-α and MMP-3 compared to the control group(P<0.05).And the observation group showed higher JOA scores,lumbar flexion/extension/rotation angles,cross-sectional area of the dural sac at L4/L5 and L5/S1 levels,intervertebral height index,and SOD levels compared to the control group(P<0.05).The total effective rate in the observation group(94.0%)was significantly higher than that in the control group(72.0%)(P<0.05).Both groups experienced mild adverse reactions,and there was no statistically significant difference between the groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Heat-sensitive moxibustion combined with spinal joint mobilization can promote pain relief and function recovery of the lumbar spine in the treatment of LDH,serving as an optimized approach for comprehensive LDH management.关键词
