摘要

Abstract

To study the control performance of a cubic stiffness nonlinear energy sink(NES)on vertical vibra-tion of structures,a dynamic model coupling a single-degree-of-freedom oscillator with an NES was devel-oped,and the nonlinear Newmark numerical integration method was employed to analyze the difference in NES performance for controlling vertical and horizontal vibrations under different natural frequencies of the pri-mary structure and external excitation frequencies.The results indicate that the influence of NES self-weight on its dynamic behaviour and vertical vibration control performance is strongly dependent on the natural fre-quency of the primary structure.When the natural frequency of the primary structure is no less than 3 Hz,the effect of self-weight on the control performance of the NES can be neglected,and the NES exhibits consistent control performance for both vertical and horizontal vibrations.However,at lower natural frequencies,the static displacement induced by self-weight increases significantly,resulting in notable changes to the NES's dynamic characteristics.The control effects of the NES on vertical and horizontal vibrations are different.When the natural frequency of the primary structure is no more than 0.8 Hz,the displacement-restoring force curve of the NES near its static equilibrium position exhibits the characteristics similar to those of a tuned mass damper(TMD),and the control effect closely resembles that of the TMD.Under different natural frequencies of the primary structure,the static vertical displacements of the NES due to self-weight are greater than those of the TMD.
