Abstract

To improve flutter performance and optimize the cross-sectional aerodynamic shape of the bridge under complex wind attack angle,a long-span suspension bridge with a main span of 1 760 m was selected as the research object.A section model wind tunnel test method was adopted to systematically measure the three-component force coefficients and vortex-induced vibration responses of the original section and opti-mized sections equipped with upper central stabilization plates of varying heights.The flutter critical wind speeds were tested within the wind attack angle range from-7° to 7°.Based on the observed test phenom-ena,the effect of the"equivalent wind attack angle"and its application method were proposed and ana-lyzed.The results indicate that the addition of upper central stabilization plates has limited influence on the section three-component force coefficients and vortex vibration performance,but effectively shifts the flutter"equivalent wind attack angle"of the streamlined box girder from-3° in the original state to 0°.This shift enhances the flutter critical wind speed under the actual incoming flow's wind attack angle at the bridge site.The mechanism by which upper central stabilization plates improves flutter stability through the regula-tion of the"equivalent wind attack angle"is revealed.A coupling mechanism between aerodynamic shape optimization and performance improvement is established,which can serve as an engineering application ex-ample.
