Abstract

Aiming at the welding application of nickel-based alloys and stainless steels,the 6 mm thickness Inconel 825/310S stainless steel test plates were welded using the Arc Tig technology.The microstructure and mechanical properties of the welded joints were analyzed and compared with plasma welded joints.The results indicate that both welding methods produced defect-free joints with well-formed structures.The microstructure of the weld zone consists primarily of dendritic Fe-Ni-Cr-based solid solutions with minor Ti(C,N)precipitates.The heat-affected zone widths for both methods are comparable,and the grains'growth are similar.The tensile strength of the Arc Tig welded joints reached 567 MPa,consistent with plasma welded joints.The tensile test samples of two welding methods fractured at the weld zone and had good plasticity and bending properties.The hardness of the Arc Tig weld zone ranged from 145HV0.2 to 170HV0.2,similar to that of the plasma weld zone,while the HAZ hardness is lower than that of the base metal.Based on the comprehensive analysis of microstructure and properties,Arc Tig technology can effectively weld 6 mm thickness Inconel 825/310S stainless steel,can be used for actual production.
