摘要
Abstract
Objective:Parents of children with autism face long-term,unique parenting pressures and challenges, making parenting burnout increasingly prominent and worthy of close attention. This study aims to explore parents'subjective experiences of parenting burnout and systematically examine its generating mechanisms, manifestations, and coping strategies.
Methods:A descriptive qualitative study was conducted.Using purposive sampling,19 parents of children with autism who attended Shenzhen Children's Hospital were selected for semi-structured in-depth interviews.Colaizzi's seven-step method was applied to code, categorize, and extract themes from the interview data until information saturation was reached.
Results:Three main themes and ten subthemes were distilled from the interviews. The first theme concerned the generation of parenting burnout, which was influenced by multiple factors such as the severity of the child's symptoms, family dynamics, and the broader social environment. The second theme focused on the experiences of parenting burnout, where parents commonly described emotional exhaustion, tendencies toward social withdrawal, feelings of guilt and self-blame,but also instances of personal growth that emerged from the challenges of caregiving. The third theme involved coping strategies, including efforts at self-regulation as well as seeking support from external resources.
Conclusion:Although most parents of children with autism in Shenzhen experience negative aspects of parenting burnout,a small number also perceive positive personal growth and gains.Healthcare providers should therefore offer individualized nursing services, build equal communication platforms, recognize the dual effects of parenting burnout, and enhance parenting quality and self-empowerment,ultimately promoting harmony and well-being in families of children with autism.关键词
