Relationship between psychological resilience and rumination in left-behind children in rural areas

Abstract
Objective To investigate the psychological resilience of left-behind children(LBC)in rural areas,analyze its relationship with rumination,and provide a reference for psychological interventions.Methods Using a stratified cluster sampling method,we selected 233 primary school students(grades 1 to 6)from a township in China for investigation.Participants were assessed with the adolescent psychological resilience scale and the ruminative responses scale.Among the 225 valid questionnaires collected,158 were from LBC.We compared scale scores between LBC and non-left-behind children(NLBC),and performed Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis to examine the relationship between psychological resilience and rumination.Results The overall psychological resilience score of LBC was at a moderate level and significantly lower than that of NLBC(P<0.05).The total score of rumination in LBC was significantly higher than that in NLBC(P<0.05).The total score of psychological resilience was significantly negatively correlated with the total score of rumination(r=-0.512,P<0.01).Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the total score and factor scores of rumination had negative predictive effects on the total score of psychological resilience in LBC.Conclusion Rural LBC exhibit lower psychological resilience and stronger rumination.A significant negative correlation exists between the two variables.Enhancing emotional regulation and reducing rumination may effectively improve psychological resilience among rural LBC.关键词
