Abstract
"X bu liao yidian"("X不了一点")is an emerging construction used to express the speaker's self-evaluation of his abilities.It achieves a humorous effect through exaggerated negation of desired action,traits,etc.,carrying a strong sense of self-mockery.Deriving from the conventional construction"X bu liao yidian N"("X不了一点N"),it consists of the variable X and the constants"bu liao"("不了")and"yidian"("一点").X can be a verb phrase(VP),adjective phrase(AP),noun phrase(NP),or even an adverb.The minimal marker"yidian"("一点")allows the negation quantity of"X bu liao yidian"("X不了一点")to surpass the limitation of"X bu liao"("X不了"),thus conveying the meaning of exaggerated negation.This construction is an analogical creation based on the regular construction"X bu liao yidian N"("X不了一点N"),and its emergence is mainly influenced by factors such as the principle of linguistic economy,high-frequency use,construction coercion,and subjectivization.关键词
