Abstract

Objective The index-near-zero(INZ)mode has demonstrated significant application potential in fields such as all-optical signal communications and physical treatment.However,its modulation typically relies on complex experimental tech-niques.Therefore,designing and validating flexibly tunable INZ modes and their application scenarios is of great importance.Methods This paper designed and proposed two deep-subwavelength magneto-optical unidirectional waveguides based on yttrium iron garnet(YIG).By theoretically analyzing the relationship between the dispersion curves of surface modes and waveguide parameters in the waveguide structure,the theory for regulating the INZ mode was clarified and validated using techniques such as the finite element method.Results Novel broadband tunable INZ modes were discovered.The frequencies of these modes were explicitly dependent on the external magnetic field,exhibiting predictable and tunable characteristics.Based on this,broadband tunable all-optical phase modulators and one slow-wave INZ device were designed by simply adjusting the external magnetic field.Conclusion The INZ modes in the unidirectional waveguides designed in this paper exhibit tunability and broadband characteristics.The functional devices realized using unidirectional INZ modes provide new possibilities for miniaturized optical system and can also be applied in medical fields such as non-invasive controllable microwave thermotherapy treatment.
