Digital Village Construction,Rural Residents' Income Increase and Rural-Urban Income Gap:Quasi-natural Experiment Based on the National Digital Village Pilots

Abstract
Digital village is an important strategy to promote farmers to share the dividends of digital economy,bridge the digital development gap between cities and villages,and realize rural revitalization.This paper utilizes the panel data of 941 counties(districts)in China from 2016 to 2022,and takes the pilot counties(districts)of the National Digital Village Policy in 2020 as a quasi-natural experiment,and adopts the double-difference method to study the mechanism of the role of digital Village construction on farmers' income,as well as the impact on the urban-rural income gap within counties(districts).The study finds that digital Village construction has a sig-nificant positive impact on farmers' income,but also widens the urban-rural income gap within counties(districts);the mechanism test shows that county(district)industrial activity and urbani-zation rate increase is an important way for digital Village construction to achieve farmers'income increase.Heterogeneity analysis shows that the effect of digital village construction on the increase of farmers' income and the urban-rural income gap within counties(districts)is affected by the level of rural e-commerce development and regional impact.The higher the level of rural e-commerce development is,the more significant income generating effect is.There is also a tend-ency to widen the urban-rural income gap within counties(districts),and regionally it shows a gradual weakening of the trend from the east-middle-west,and south-north.This paper studies the impact of digital village construction on farmers' income and the urban-rural income gap,and provides strong empirical evidence for further promoting rural revitalization.关键词
