Abstract

This study conducted a field experiment using Yanshu 25 as test material and setting four treatments,namely,single application of chemical fertilizer under normal water conditions(T1),combined application of organic and inorganic fertilizers under normal water conditions(T2),single application of chemical fertilizer under water shortage conditions(T3),and combined application of organic and inorganic fertilizers under water shortage conditions(T4).The effects of combined application of organic and inorganic fertilizers under different water conditions on root growth,chlorophyll content in leaves,antioxidant system,content of leaf osmotic regulatory substances and yield of sweet potato were analyzed.The results showed that the total root length,total root surface area,average root diameter,total root volume and root tip number of sweet potato in water shortage treatments were significantly reduced compared with the normal water treatments.The total root length,total root surface area,average root diameter,total root volume and root tip number of T4 treatment increased by 12.04%,16.57%,12.41%,20.90%and 23.59%respectively compared with T3 treatment(P<0.05).Water shortage significantly reduced the content of chlorophyll a in leaves.Combined ap-plication of organic and inorganic fertilizers significantly increased the contents of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b under different water conditions compared with single application of chemical fertilizer.In water shortage treatmens,the malondialdehyde(MDA)content in sweet potato leaves significantly increased,and the activi-ties of superoxide dismutase(SOD),peroxidase(POD)and catalase(CAT)significantly increased.Com-pared with T3 treatment,the MDA content in leaves of T4 treatment significantly decreased by 24.12%,the SOD and CAT activities significantly increased by 8.28%and 9.97%respectively,and the activity of POD in-creased by 6.90%with no significant difference;the contents of soluble sugar,soluble protein and vitamin C significantly increased by 11.18%,14.03%and 14.85%(P<0.05),respectively,and the water loss rate of leaves decreased by 3.5 percentage points at 12 and 14 hours after removed from the plants.Water shortage treatments significantly reduced the number of sweet potato per plant,and the average weight and yield of the fresh sweet potatoes.The combination of organic and inorganic fertilizers under different water conditions could significantly increase the fresh potato yield,among which,the yield of fresh sweet potatoes in T4 treatment in-creased by 23.27%compared to T3 treatment.In summary,the combined application of organic and inorganic fertilizers could alleviate the effects of water shortage on root growth of sweet potato,increase chlorophyll con-tent of sweet potato leaves,enhance the activity of antioxidant enzyme,reduce malondialdehyde content,ef-fectively delay leaf senescence,maintain good water conditions in leaves,and finally improve the yield of sweet potato.This conclusion could provide the theoretical basis and technological support for water and fertil-izer management in high-yield cultivation of sweet potato.
