Abstract

As the evolutionary direction of large-scale multiple-input multiple-output in the fifth generation,extra-large-scale multiple-input multiple-output(XL-MIMO)has become one of the key enabling technologies for sixth-generation networks,offering significant advantages in improving spectral efficiency and channel capacity.Channel measurement is an essential approach to reveal the characteristics of XL-MIMO channels and a fundamental prerequisite for fully exploiting their potential.Based on large-scale multiple-input multiple-output,commonly used channel measurement methods are first introduced,including time-domain and frequency-domain approaches.Then,channel measurement activities of fifth-generation large-scale multiple-input multiple-output in several typical frequency bands,including the sub-6 gigahertz band and the millimeter-wave band,are summarized,followed by an analysis of multi-user channel orthogonality,channel hardening,and large-and small-scale fading characteristics.Subsequently,for sixth-generation XL-MIMO,particular attention is given to the new mid-band(6-24 GHz)proposed for International Mobile Telecommunications services,where large-and small-scale fading characteristics,near-field effects,and spatial non-stationarity are investigated.Finally,the potential applications of XL-MIMO in integrated sensing and communication are discussed,and its research prospects in channel measurement and modeling for integrated sensing and communication are highlighted.
