Comparison of Growth Traits and Insect Resistance Among Six Leuce Hybrid Clones

Abstract
Through comprehensive comparison and evaluation of the growth traits and insect resistance characteristics of different clones,this study aims to identify and select elite hybrid clones from the inter-specific hybridisation progeny population of Leuce that exhibit both rapid growth and strong insect resist-ance.The study through six hybrid clones of the poplar,153,158,175,190,626,and 77,with common par-ents,were used as materials to carry out a three-year multi-sites(Pingyao,Tunliu,and Xiangfen)compara-tive test forest,with LM50 as the control(direct breeding).The growth traits and insect resistance of the second-instar and fourth-instar H.cunea of different clones were examined,and the membership function method was used to evaluate their growth traits and insect resistance comprehensively,and to preliminarily select elite clones with both high yield and insect resistance.The ANOVA showed that environmental fac-tors had a significant effect on the height,DBH and volume of hybrid clones(P<0.01).The growth traits of the clones in the experimental forests in many locations were significantly different.In insect resistance trials,clones 175 and 190 exhibited significantly reduced leaf consumption(in terms of weight and area)by H.cunea larvae.Clone 77 exhibited the lowest larval weight gain and relative growth rate(RGR)in fourth-instar H.cunea larvae.Clone 77 exhibited the lowest larval weight gain and relative growth rate(RGR)in fourth-instar H.cunea larvae.Correlation analysis indicated highly significant positive relation-ships among growth traits,growth traits were significantly positively correlated with the leaf area eaten by H.cunea,and the feeding amount at different time points of the same instar was positively correlated.The comprehensive evaluation of membership function was ranked as 175>190>158>77>LM50>626>153.Through comprehensive evaluation based on principal component analysis and membership function,the clone 175,190,158 and 77 stands out by surpassing their parental control in growth traits,and also exhibits better in insect resistance.Consequently,it provides excellent germplasm material for future molecular breeding to develop new varieties with high insect resistance.关键词
